What did Toby do for the first time ever today?

17 August 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Toby Alderweireld stepped out at Wembley Stadium for the first time ever this morning and beamed: “I can’t wait to play here in front of our fans!”

The seasoned defender wasn’t in Belgium's squad when they faced England at the National Stadium in 2012 and has never experienced club football at the famous 90,000-seater venue, meaning today’s training session represented a major first in the 27-year-old’s career.

“I’ve been around but not to watch a game or a concert or anything so it’s the first time ever for me and it's nice to be here,” said the defender after putting in a shift during the squad’s stint on the turf in the glorious London sunshine – a useful work-out in preparation for our UEFA Champions League matches at Wembley this season.

“It’s always nice to train and play in big stadiums and it’s good to get the feeling for the Champions League games.

“Obviously it’s the first time to get a feel for how things are here and some of the small games in training will help us to get the feeling of how the pitch is, how big it is and allow us to get comfortable so it’s a great initiative to train here.

“It’s an unbelievable place and when we play our games it’s going to be full of supporters so I’m really looking forward to playing here with all the Spurs fans around us. Hopefully we’ll be able to perform well and go through.”
