West Ham vs Spurs - Hugo ready for action

Hugo Lloris has refused to get carried away over our pre-season winning streak, but is in a positive frame of mind ahead of our trip to West Ham this weekend.

The popular French international was back in goal for us in our last pre-season outing against Schalke last Saturday, having previously enjoyed a couple of weeks’ rest following his participation at the World Cup finals.

During his hiatus, we built up a head of steam in our warm-up matches with consecutive wins against Toronto FC, Chicago Fire and Celtic, before rounding off our summer campaign by toppling Champions League side Schalke at the Lane.

While encouraged by those results, Hugo knows it’s all water under the bridge now as we look to make a winning start to the new Premier League season at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.

“Pre-season doesn’t mean a lot and it’s always better not to lose games in the summer, but now the league is starting and every team begins on zero points so we need to have a good start,” said the 27-year-old.

“This kind of game is a good test as a first away match, and it’s difficult to look for anything but a victory.

“You always need to have determination, ambition and passion and we have the ambition to go to Upton Park and get three points. Hopefully we will enjoy a great game and make our fans happy.”
