West Ham v Spurs - Mauricio's preview
02 March 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino summed up what tonight's derby at West Ham means to everyone by stating: "It means more than three points."
Our final visit to Upton Park arrives at a crucial stage of the season.
We travel East in second with six wins on the trot, defending an unbeaten away run stretching back to the season's opening day. West Ham, meanwhile, are unbeaten at home since August.
With Arsenal to follow at the Lane it's quite a week - let alone with us sitting second in the Premier League.
Below: Mauricio speaks to Spurs TV
"The three points are very important and at the end of the game, on the table it means three points, but I think games like West Ham and Arsenal mean more than three points because of the emotions of the derby," said Mauricio.
"It’s a very special game for our supporters and for us too, because we feel the same as them so for that, it means more than three points."
How are the players ahead of this week's two derbies?
Mauricio: "The players feel very good and excited for the next games. West Ham are a very good team and they have played well over the whole season. They have some very good players and we expect a very tough game. It’s a derby and a different game to others."
Is the key thing to keep emotions in check?
Mauricio: "We’ve played a lot of games over the season, Premier League, Europa League, cups and I think we’re in a good process. It’s true, at the beginning of the season our objective was to create this mentality. We’re young, but we’ve improved a lot during the season. The players have the experience to play emotional games like West Ham and Arsenal. We need to trust in our jobs, in our philosophy and in football, it’s also about enjoyment and we need to enjoy it as well. We play, work hard and enjoy."
Toby talked about the togetherness of the team this week - something you've spoken about all season...
Mauricio: "It’s very important that a player like Toby speaks so well about the club and about us. We are in a process where this is our first step but it’s true we’ve improved a lot in a very short period. The potential is massive and we have a very exciting future for the club. We hope we can help the club achieve big things in the future."
