West Ham boss Bilic on 'special game' at the Lane

18 November 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Slaven Bilic believes there’s an “electricity” about our playing style as he prepares to bring his charges to White Hart Lane this weekend.

The West Ham chief has overseen an upturn in form for the Hammers in recent weeks, with Premier League wins over Crystal Palace and Sunderland under their belts during October, not to mention a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the EFL Cup.

We’ve drawn our last four domestic outings but, ahead of our latest London derby on Saturday, Bilic expects both sides to face a stern test with more Premier League points at stake.

“You can say that on one hand, in October, Spurs didn’t win a game but on the other hand, they are the only team that is unbeaten,” he said.

“They are doing a good job and they've had a tough season because they've had a couple of injuries. Of course, the individual quality is there, the players are unique, they run a lot, they press a lot and it is enjoyable to watch them. They are solid, they are electric but it’s a good opportunity because we have improved and if we play good, we have a chance no matter who we are playing.

“Of course, it’s a very tough game – especially away. They are very comfortable in their stadium, it’s very tight, it's a good home ground but we are looking forward to it.”

As a player, Bilic’s first appearance for the Hammers came on our enclosure back in February, 1996. We lost 1-0 on that occasion and the now 48-year-old understandably has fond memories of that particular clash.

“I made my debut of course there, I remember that game,” he added. “It was always and is always going to be a special game, like a derby, maybe the biggest game of the season for us when we play them. We won that game 1-0 and of course I have good memories about that.”

Mauricio Pochettino spoke to the media ahead of the game yesterday (Thursday, November 17). Here's what he had to say.
