'We're on the right path' - Dele
27 December 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Dele Alli spoke of the team’s renewed confidence after we made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since early November with Boxing Day’s triumph over Norwich City.
The England international was once again irresistible in midfield and played a key role in the build-up to both of Harry Kane’s goals as we took a two-goal lead in at half-time against the Canaries, before Tom Carroll rounded off a 3-0 win late in the game.
That made it two wins and two clean sheets from two games following last weekend’s 2-0 victory at Southampton – the ideal response to the disappointment of our 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Newcastle United a fortnight ago in what was only our second league loss of the campaign.
“We’re delighted to get the three points today. It was a solid performance by everyone and we really showed what we’re about,” said Dele as he reflected on the performance against Norwich.
Another strong performance today! Good 3 points, now to prepare for Monday's game.. Also congrats to @tom_carroll92 ⚽️— Dele Alli (@Dele_Alli) December 26, 2015
“Personally I was just going out there and trying to express myself. I wanted to get forward as much as I could but, in terms of the whole team, we had a game plan, everyone stuck to it and it worked so thankfully we can leave with the three points.
“Obviously we were in good form and we went a lot of games unbeaten before the Newcastle match and I think that result affected the boys quite a lot for a few days, but we’re in really good form again and we’re playing well.
“It was just a little setback but we’re on the right path again now and this result is massive, not just for the table but for our confidence as well, especially with the game on Monday against a really good Watford side.”
With that trip to Vicarage Road – which comes just 48 hours after the Norwich game – now the focus of everyone’s attention, Dele says the players will have no problems dealing with such a quick turnaround.
“We’ve got some great staff here, some great sports scientists and we’re doing all the right things to recover properly,” he added.
“Watford are playing well at the moment, they got the draw against Chelsea and they’ve got a lot of strengths, but so have we and I think we fancy our chances against anyone at the moment so we’re going to go there and try our best to get the three points.”
