'We're evolving, I'm part of it and proud of that' - Toby on hitting 100
24 October 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Toby Alderweireld hit 100 games for the Club against Liverpool - and has told us what he's enjoyed most after becoming the latest player to reach the century.
A rock at the back, Toby has formed one of the best central defensive partnerships around with Jan Vertonghen since joining us from Atletico Madrid in July, 2015, helping us set Club records in the last two seasons including conceding just 26 goals last term - the fewest in a league campaign.
"I’m very proud, of course, it’s a wonderful game to play my 100th so I’m very pleased with it," said Toby after goals from Harry Kane (2), Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli secured a fine 4-1 win against the Reds at Wembley on Sunday.
"We wanted to start very well and did that. We know they have a lot of threats up front with pace - I think we defended very well as a team and we were very, very dangerous, sometimes on the counter or with our play.
"We needed this fixture – it’s very important to get the three points and Wembley is becoming our home, that’s important."
Asked for the highlights of his 100 games, Toby added: "I think my first goal for Spurs of course, that was a special one against City (September, 2015) in a 4-1 win.
"I always enjoy playing here, playing in the Champions League, growing with the group – that’s my favourite feeling. This group is evolving and I’m a part of it so I feel very proud of that."
Toby became the 10th player to make it to a century of appearances in all competitions for the Club when he stepped out against Liverpool.
