We'll need to be at our best - Scott
Scott Parker agrees with William Gallas – insisting we have to play our normal game in Lyon on Thursday night.
The squad arrived in France on Wednesday afternoon and will now put the final preparations together for tomorrow night’s Europa League Round of 32, second leg against the Ligue 1 title-chasers.
We’ve a narrow 2-1 lead from the first leg at the Lane last week and therefore a goalless draw would see us through - but Scott echoed William’s view that playing for that scenario isn’t in our nature.
“Of course, not conceding a goal would be ideal but we can’t go there with the mentality of trying to get a 0-0 draw,” said Scott.
“We need to be solid defensively but at the same time we have players who can cause them problems. We’ve got to be ourselves, to try and nick a goal and win the game.”
Scott and Mousa Dembele had a tough battle in central midfield as Lyon set-up with a 4-5-1 formation in the first leg and Scott has a hunch the home side will still look to hit us on the counter at the Stade de Gerland.
“They had an overload in midfield and I don’t think they’ll play a lot differently, perhaps they’ll come out a little more, but I think they are more likely to try to hit us on the counter-attack if they can,” he added.
“We know it will be tough. They are well-organised with a wealth of Champions League experience and some very good players.
“We’ll need to be at our best to get a result but we’ve showed our quality away from home this season and we’re hoping to put in another positive performance.”
