Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Mauritius officials welcomed the club with open arms at a press conference on Wednesday night.
The main party arrived on the island early in the afternoon and preparations for Friday’s friendly against the Mauritius national team started in earnest on Thursday.
Dunathlalall Persunnoo, President of the Mauritius FA, said: “For us in Mauritius it is a pleasure to have Tottenham here. They are not only here to play a friendly but also for the promotion of football. On behalf of the football family here I would like to thank everyone, especially Suresh Taurah, for their support and contributions to help this project to materialise.”
Tour promoter Suresh Taurah of Imbel Travel added: “Ever since my arrival in the UK in 1968 I’ve enjoyed very strong ties with the Tottenham area both having lived and worked there. I have grown to love Tottenham Hotspur and always loved Mauritius so this is a dream come true for me, to be involved in bringing one of the most famous teams here.
“Football is in the heart and soul of many people in Mauritius. Since the announcement that Tottenham were coming here the interest has been overwhelming. By making this trip, Tottenham have made many, many people happy.”
Thursday has already been a busy day with a visit to Rose Belle School, an open training session and Frank Arnesen running the rule over an Under-17 tournament at the Anjalay Stadium - we'll have a report and more pictures in our 'Spurs in Mauritius' feature later.
