'We worked for each other' - Shayon

31 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Two-goal Shayon Harrison paid tribute to the efforts of the whole team after our Under-21s breezed past Chelsea on Friday night.

The front man produced two deadly finishes from inside the penalty area either side of Milos Veljkovic’s strike – sweeping in our opener after Filip Lesniak unselfishly squared to him when well placed to shoot before thumping home Anthony Georgiou’s cross at the first time of asking to make it 3-0 on the night.

Chelsea reduced the deficit through Tammy Abraham three minutes from time, but we remained in control to see out an excellent 3-1 victory.

Shayon admitted his hard work in training paid dividends in front of goal, but he was keen to share the credit with his team-mates after what Under-21s Coach Ugo Ehiogu described as a “magnificent” showing.

“I’ve been working a lot on scoring from crosses and that paid off with my second goal, perhaps a little bit with the first one as well, so I was really pleased with that,” he said.

“I’m very happy to get back on the scoresheet – it felt good – but the team put on a great performance and I think it was our best game to date.

“We performed really well with the ball and without it, especially when defending set pieces. I thought we were really strong and we worked together as a unit, so overall I’d say we were deserved winners.”

The forward went on to explain how he believes the spirit of our young players shone through on the pitch, even during a difficult last few minutes when Chelsea pushed forward in search of a way back into the contest.

“As a team we work really well together,” he added. “It was a bit end-to-end in the latter stages as Chelsea were really trying to push men forward and trying to chase the game, but I thought we defended as a unit and we did jobs for the team and each other.

“When we talk to each other and encourage each other, that’s the best way for us to work and I think we really wanted to win for each other tonight so I’m really happy with that.”
