We showed our spirit and determination - Gylfi
Gylfi Sigurdsson felt the performance against Everton underlined the team’s determination to make it into the top four of the Premier League.
Having opened the scoring through Emmanuel Adebayor inside a minute, the lads found themselves 2-1 down against a typically well-organised Everton team, who replied through Phil Jagielka and Kevin Mirallas.
We were camped in Everton’s half for the final 35 minutes – at the same time, having to deal with the threat on the break – and finally found the equaliser we deserved when Gylfi’s pounced from close range after Ade struck the post.
“It was disappointing not to get more out of the game, especially after the start we made,” said Gylfi.
“Everton are a tough team to play against, they showed that at Goodison and showed it again. That’s why they are right up there.
“We showed how much we want to get into the top four, we want that Champions League spot and you could see it in the performance.
“We dominated the second half and pushed for the third goal but it wasn’t to be.
“We’ve lost huge players but we put on a great performance. It’s difficult when you go 2-1 down after leading a match so early but we showed the spirit to push them back.”
