'We only have ourselves to blame' - Michel Vorm
26 October 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Michel Vorm wasn’t pointing fingers anywhere else after we let slip a 2-0 lead against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
We were in control at half-time as goals from Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli put us in the driving seat at Wembley. In truth, West Ham had hardly threatened.
Nothing essentially changed at the start of the second half until Andre Ayew bundled home from close range after Michel saved Edimilson Fernandes’ shot from a corner.
That sparked West Ham’s revival and within 15 minutes they were 3-2 up as Ayew and Angelo Ogbonna capitalised from set-piece plays. Rocked, we couldn’t find a way back.
“There is only one thing to blame and that’s ourselves,” said Michel, proud captain on the night.
“Being captain was a huge thing for me but captain or not, win or lose, you know a game like this is important in every way and if you are 2-0 up at half-time and lose 3-2 it’s disappointing.
"We lost too many simple balls and couldn’t get back in the game. They kept believing and before you know it it was 2-2, 3-2.
“In football, you have these kind of days and these kind of games. We just need to focus on Saturday (Manchester United away in the Premier League), and we will.
“You can’t win every game but we need to analyse this and make sure we learn from it.”
