Luka Modric talked about the team’s never-say-die attitude after Sunday’s fine win against Liverpool.
It was the sixth time we’ve come from behind in the Barclays Premier League this season, winning five and drawing one, taking 16 points from losing positions.
This time Liverpool took the lead through Martin Skrtel in the 42nd minute and the Reds could have added to that lead with chances either side of half-time.
Undetered, we struck back in the second half. Gareth Bale had an effort cleared off the line and Jermain Defoe missed a penalty before Luka carved open the visitors to set-up the equaliser, Skrtel sliding into his own net.
We had a late goal disallowed for offside but came again and found the winner two minutes into injury time as Peter Crouch flicked on Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s pass for Aaron Lennon to dart past Paul Konchesky and finish in style.
“It was a great result for us,” said Luka, in fine form of late. “We needed to be better in the first half, we were sloppy but we also created chances.
“In the second half we were much, much better and the goal lifted us. Azza then scored a great goal.
“It showed again that we have character, great spirit, we never give up and always fight to the last minute.
“It’s good to know that when you are down, you can turn it around.
“We never lose confidence when we’re losing, we know we can come back and we’ve showed that many times. It’s good to know we can do that.”
Luka was asked if that belief came straight from the manager. “Yes, but the players need to believe as well,” he added.
“The manager can believe but if the players don’t believe, it’s hard to do it. We also believe and we have great confidence. We just need to carry on now.”
