'We need to be strong' - Mauricio previews Palace

26 April 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Focus is the key word from Mauricio Pochettino as we prepare to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tonight.

The manager expects a tough test physically from a Palace team that has won six of the last eight in the Premier League including taking the scalps of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

"That (form) speaks very highly of Crystal Palace," said Mauricio. "It will be a very tough game, they have very good players and it's been a great impact from the manager on the team.

"We need to be strong. We need to be aware of that, they will fight a lot to try to beat us and when you are playing for the title, playing to be in the top four, what that game means is so important."

Mauricio felt the players had recovered from a difficult week which began with the sudden, sad passing of our Under-23 coach Ugo Ehiogu and continued on the pitch with an FA Cup semi-final loss against Chelsea at Wembley.

"Until yesterday, we were a little sad for everything that happened at the weekend, and that started with Ugo," reflected Mauricio. "It was a very sad week.

"I think we deserved more (against Chelsea), a different result. That is the level we wanted to be at when we first arrived here and now we’re at that level, fighting with the top sides, trying to win games and win titles.

"It’s important to keep going. It’s disappointing, a little frustrating but we have to move on because the most important thing now is the present. It’s important now to be focused on the present

"We are ready again to compete, six games ahead to finish the season, big things to play for and a massive game against Palace. We hope to play well and get the three points."

Chelsea moved seven points ahead at the top of the Premier League after beating Southampton 4-2 last night.

Victory will reduce that gap back to four points, it will also mark eight-successive league wins and take us to 74 points - a Club record haul in the Premier League era.
