Hugo Lloris admitted to being 'a bit frustrated' after finally being beaten from the penalty spot but insisted 'everything is possible' in Group C of the Europa League after our 1-1 draw against Besiktas on Thursday night.
Hugo delivered a masterclass to keep the Turkish side at bay - producing four saves right out of the top drawer - and it looked like his heroics would take us to a key victory in the group after Harry Kane’s fine strike in the first half.
But as we ticked into the 89th minute, Vlad Chiriches was penalised for handball and Demba Ba slotted home from the spot.
The result sees both us and Besiktas on two points after two games with Greek side Asteras Tripolis top thanks to a 2-0 win against Partizan.
Hugo, skipper on the night, gave his verdict. “We are always looking at collective performance and it was a tough game against a big team who showed that they play at a high level,” he said.
“After the first half we came out with more intention on the ball but we conceded a late penalty and it’s a bit frustrating. We have to learn about that and keep going.
“We know everything is still possible in the group stage and we will work together to get the qualification.”
Typically modest, Hugo added: “We always try our best. I try to be decisive for the team, to keep the team in the game and after that we know we have the quality to make the difference but this time it wasn’t enough.
“Maybe that’s the opponents as well as they played a really good game, they put us under pressure. A draw isn’t a bad result, it’s another point and we will now look to make the difference against Asteras.”
