'We have to keep our identity' - Mauricio ready for Bernabeu test

17 October 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino says it's important we 'keep our identity' as we face Real Madrid in the Bernabeu this evening.

We face back-to-back matches against the holders and 12-times Champions League/European Cup winners in what could be a pivotal fortnight in Group H.

Both teams have won two out of two so far and now we meet in Madrid tonight before the return at Wembley on Wednesday 1 November.

"We’re so excited to go to Madrid and play Champions League," said Mauricio, who knows Los Blancos well from his days as both a player and manager of Espanyol in La Liga.

"It will be a very tough game but in the same way it’s so exciting to play Champions League against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu. It’s a fantastic situation to show our quality and try to win.

"We have to keep our identity. Of course, sometimes in this kind of game you have to compete in the best way knowing that they will push you and force you to play deeper. We will play in the opposition’s half, try to dominate the game and try to score goals, that’s so important.

"It’s a special game for everyone, not only for me. It’s exciting to face teams at this level. We’re all excited."
