'We have to finish off these games' - Toby
27 August 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Frustration was etched on Toby Alderweireld’s face as he pored over Burnley’s late leveller at Wembley on Sunday.
We looked set for a win after Dele Alli fired us in front after 49 minutes of this Premier League encounter.
Our best spell followed soon after only for Tom Heaton to deny Harry Kane twice, Dele and Christian Eriksen. Harry also saw a header hacked off the line by Steven Defour.
Burnley were starting to carve out chances as well but Hugo Lloris was there to keep out Chris Wood and Robbie Brady and as four minutes of added time went up, we still led 1-0. However, 90 seconds later it was all-square as Wood latched onto Brady’s pass and drove home.
“It's not an easy game, Burnley are strong, they defend all the time, they counter-attack, set-pieces as well, every ball comes into the box, but in these games, we have to finish it, we have to be clever,” said Toby.
“They defend with 10 men behind the ball so it's difficult to create chances. You have to be clinical in your passing, in playing forward and then if you get three or four chances, you have to finish the game a lot earlier.”
It was suggested to Toby that the draw would again shine the spotlight on our results at Wembley. “I don't agree, because if we score and it's two, three-nil, then it's a good game from us.
“It was like Chelsea, we played a good game as well, Juventus, we played a good game, so I don't buy that."
