We had to dig deep - Harry

Fri 07 November 2014, 09:25|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane was delighted to hit double-figures for the season as we were pushed all the way by Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The striker headed home from Andros Townsend’s cross to make it 2-0 as we took charge with two goals in six minutes before the break. Andros earlier opened the scoring, picking himself up after being fouled to fire home from the penalty spot.

Unbeaten at home in Europe in seven matches before our visit, Asteras clicked into gear in the second half and after several near misses and a couple of fine saves from Michel Vorm, pulled a goal back in the final minute. Jeronimo Barrales broke into the box, Federico Fazio was judged to have brought him down, he was sent off and Barrales scored from the penalty spot for 2-1.

The win sees us remain joint-top of Group C with Besiktas, who beat Partizan Belgrade 2-1.

It means victory over Partizan at the Lane on Thursday, November 27 will secure a place in the knockout phase of the competition.

“It was a tough game and it was great to get the win and to get on the scoresheet,” said Harry, who has seven goals in six matches in Europe and 10 in 14 in all competitions.

“I thought we played well in the first half, created chances and took two of them. In the second half they came out of the blocks straight away and put us on the back foot.

“These are the games where you have to dig deep and get the result and we managed to do that.

“It was a great feeling to score again and I’m pleased to get into double figures at this stage of the season.

“I’ve now got to push on and get some more.

“I feel very confident stepping out on the pitch, I feel I’m always going to get a couple of chances and that I’ll take one. I’ve just got to keep it going.

“It’s Stoke next at home, another important game for us and hopefully we’ll get the win there as well.”
