'We can't rest on our laurels' - Daws

Michael Dawson has stressed the importance of maintaining momentum with a positive result at Newcastle.

The skipper was all smiles after Sunday’s single-goal victory against Everton – but with all roads leading to St James’ Park for Wednesday’s clash, Daws wants us to continue our pursuit of a top four spot by adding to our points tally in the North East.

“We had a good win on Sunday and we go there looking to push on again,” Michael said.

“We can’t rest on our laurels just because we’ve had a good result against Everton.

“We want to finish in the top four and we’re chasing Liverpool, that’s our aim.”

Daws described our triumph over the Toffees as “a massive win” – and reserved praise for our second half performance in particular as Kyle Walker’s quick free-kick led to Emmanuel Adebayor bagging the only goal of the game.

“We went into the game with Everton only a point ahead and now we’ve jumped ahead of them and we’re only three points behind Liverpool, we’re in the mix,” Daws said.

“Everton are a top team, they’ve had a good season and they would have been ahead if it wasn’t for Hugo. He made a world-class save and we rode our luck.

“But I thought we were magnificent in the second half and deserved the win.

“It was a great ball from Walks, Ade pulled away from the centre-half, and it was a great touch and a great finish. That set us up for the victory.”
