Nacer Chadli is convinced we can turn around a 1-0 deficit against Dnipro when lock horns again at the Lane in the second leg of our Europa League Round of 32 tie on Thursday (February 27).
The Belgian international started his third match in this season’s competition and completed the 90 minutes as we fell to defeat in the first leg at the Dnipro Arena.
Nacer was central to our best moments going forward on Thursday night and was disappointed not to grab an away goal.
He angled a shot just wide in the first half and just failed to convert Harry Kane’s flick in front of goal in the final moments. Roberto Soldado also missed a good chance, Paulinho went close and Christian Eriksen had a goal disallowed.
In the end, Dnipro – dangerous throughout in an end-to-end game – took the lead in the tie thanks to Yevhen Konoplyanka’s late penalty.
But it’s certainly all to play for when we meet again next week.
“We had the chances to score, we didn’t manage to do it but now we have the return on Thursday and I think we can make the difference,” said Nacer, who has now racked up 24 appearances in all competitions.
“They played on the counter-attack and were dangerous as well, but I feel sure we can score goals at home. I believe we can make it.
“We have the quality and confidence to do it and we know we can make the difference at home with the fans right behind us.”
