Disappointment, pain, frustration, pride - Mauricio Pochettino experienced all the emotions as we fought out a 1-1 draw at Watford on Saturday.
Mauricio was pleased with how the team hit back from conceding first again and we looked in good shape going into half-time in the ascendency following Heung-Min Son’s equaliser.
We started the second half with intent as well only lose centre-back Davinson Sanchez to a straight red card after a challenge on Richarlison.
Our 10 men defended well and clear-cut chances were at a premium - as they were throughout. We pushed for the win despite the numerical disadvantage, Watford hit the post, Moussa Sissoko came closest to grabbing a winner for us and it ended all square.
“I feel disappointment and pain,” said Mauricio. “It's painful because after 20 minutes we dominated the game but we conceded from a set-piece.
“The team was like 'okay, it's happened again and we need to fight and come back’ and showed great character.
“We scored a great goal from Son and at 1-1, I thought we played much better in the first half.
“In the second half we're a little unlucky because to play with 10 men for 40 minutes was difficult, but we always fought for the win.
“We took a lot of risks trying to win the game in the second half. The balance was very good, playing with 10 men. You can only play in the way we played (with 10 men) if you have character.
“It was an amazing effort and I'm so proud about that. I'm frustrated about the last few results but happy with the performances. The team is alive and fighting and the commitment is amazing.”
