Walker looking for Hammers repeat... and more assists

18 November 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Naturally, Kyle Walker has happy memories of our last home clash with West Ham United.

The flying full-back was on the scoresheet as we triumphed 4-1 over the Hammers almost a year ago to the day – his first goal since December, 2013.

If you offered him a repeat of that outcome on Saturday the England international would undoubtedly take it but, as he aims to extend our unbeaten Premier League run with victory over Slaven Bilic’s men, Kyle says he’s actually more focused on setting up goals for others this term.

“Obviously it was a good result last season – it was a London derby and we got the win so hopefully we can repeat that on Saturday but we need to show a certain work ethic and desire to go and win the ball back high up the field and do what we did then,” said the right-back, who shone in England’s 3-0 victory over Scotland at Wembley last week.

“For me, I think it’s nice to contribute with a goal every now and then but my main focus this season is to get a lot more assists.

“Since the start of this season I‘ve got a couple already so I’m quite happy with that, but I still need to improve on that.

“Hopefully, as a team, we can start banging in the goals now and kick on because we always seem to do well around this period of the season.”
