Vincent's target

13 July 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

As sharp-shooting goes, Vincent Janssen's answer to being asked his targets for next season really hit the spot.

"I hope to play a lot, to score a lot of goals and to win prizes," said the striker, without hesitation.

Vincent was speaking for the first time as a Spurs player after joining us from AZ Alkmaar - subject to international clearance - this week.

Goals are certainly Vincent's currency.

The 22-year-old bounced back to the top flight of Dutch football - the Eredivisie - after being released by Feyenoord by scoring 32 goals at Almere City in the second tier.

That secured a move to AZ at the start of last term, and he delivered spectacularly - 27 goals took him to the top of the goalscoring charts at the end of the season, AZ finished fourth and he was called into the Dutch squad - where he's now scored three goals in five caps, including a goal in his first start against England at Wembley in March.

Five Spurs players were in the England squad that night. "It was perfect for me, a dream come true to be in the Dutch team and score a goal," said Vincent, who will return there next season when we play our Champions League fixtures at the national stadium.

Pundits in Holland point to Vincent's sheer enthusiasm and work rate - strengths that draw comparisons to Harry Kane, another player who has worked and worked his way through the ranks to get to the top, breaking records as he's gone along and claiming the Premier League's Golden Boot last term.

"That work is so important to make you play well, if you do, it’s because of the hard work in training," he added. "I’ve done that all my life and from what I’ve heard, Harry did that also."
