Vincent’s big moment, Eriksen, Davies and Son react to Millwall win
Mon 13 March 2017, 10:55|Tottenham Hotspur
Vincent Janssen was the recipient of the biggest cheer inside White Hart Lane on Sunday after stepping off the bench to bag his second FA Cup goal - and his first for the club from open play.
The Dutch striker has had to work hard for his opportunities since moving from AZ Alkmaar last summer but he once again made an impact as a second-half substitute, converting a low pass from Heung-Min Son to make it 5-0 in our FA Cup quarter-final clash with Millwall.
Naturally delighted to get on the scoresheet, Vincent also earned support from hat-trick hero Heung-Min Son, opening goalscorer Christian Eriksen and left-back Ben Davies in the wake of our eventual 6-0 triumph.
Here’s what the lads had to say to us after booking a Wembley date in the semi-finals…

On the crowd’s reaction to his goal
“That was fantastic. It’s nice to see they were so happy for me. I’ve worked hard for that moment and it was nice to see the boys happy for me as well. If you are a footballer that’s what you want to hear and thanks to the fans, it was amazing. It’s fantastic how they support me and I really like that, I really appreciate it. It’s amazing to play and hear your name being sung.”
On his appearance off the bench
“I was happy to get some time. It was a nice pass from Sonny and I saw space and I’m happy to score. That’s football – work hard and you’ll get your chances.”
On the overall outcome
“We really wanted to go through. The semi-finals are so important and we did a good job to win 6-0. We want to win trophies, we’re in the semi-final now and we have to go on and continue our form. We’ll see who we get next.”
Christian Eriksen
On Sonny and Vincent scoring after Harry’s injury
“Hopefully it’s not too bad with Harry and of course we’re hoping he will be back as soon as possible but again you’ve seen today, we have strikers who can be on the pitch and still score goals. I think everyone who is normally not playing now will have the chance if Harry is gone. It will be a big footstep to step into but of course everyone is going to try to do their best and try to prove that they’re capable.”
On the importance of his opening goal
“I think all the goals fell at good times. You could feel them, I think they were a bit frustrated when we scored. Of course they had probably hoped for 0-0 at half-time and would have made it a big battle for the second half but luckily we took our chances before that and really made it easier for ourselves to finish the game off in a quiet way. 6-0 is a very good score to finish the game and we showed that we want to play, we want to win and we want to score goals.”
On Sonny’s treble
“I’m very pleased for him and you can see it in himself as well - he’s very pleased that he finally got a hat-trick. It was a bit lucky with the last goal but every one counts!”
On top teams in the semi-finals
“Of course it’s only the big teams left now but we know that when you come to the final stages and the final games, it could mean a big game. Hopefully it will be a big game and good fun to play at Wembley, hopefully twice! We’ve played alright at Wembley in the last couple of matches but with the games coming up now in the semis it will be something else and hopefully it will be a good chance to give us a good feeling and hopefully try to win something.”

Emotions after Vincent’s goal
“I was
delighted. You could see by the celebrations that we were over the moon
for him. He’s a top lad and somebody that’s great in this group, he
works really hard so for him to get that first goal from open play is
great.”
Thoughts on the game
“It was job done
today. That’s what we were saying before the game, it’s about being as
professional as we can, making sure there are no slip-ups and I think we
did that perfectly today. It’s easy to score one goal against teams
like this and think the job is done but we kept going, we pushed on, we
were professional and I think we were good value for the win.”
On Harry Kane’s early departure through injury
“We’re
confident with whoever we’ve got in our team, whoever we’ve got on the
pitch. Our squad is full of quality, it’s a big shame losing Harry and
hopefully it’s not too serious but when you’ve got somebody like
Christian Eriksen on the bench to come on, it’s good to have players
like that in the squad.”
On Sonny’s hat-trick
“Every time he
gets a chance on the field he seems to create something or seems to be
involved in goals. It’s a big part of his game and he’s really staking a
claim to get himself playing regularly. The quality and the strength in
depth in this squad is there for all to see.”

Heung-Min Son
On Vincent’s goal
“Of course, it’s very important for him. He’s scored some penalties before and the fans were really happy. I’m really happy as well because I passed to Vincent and he scored. We won 6-0 and it was important to get into the semi-finals.”
On his own performance
“It’s really difficult to score three goals but I’m just really happy to win and to score a hat-trick. This afternoon was lucky for me. Sometimes it’s lucky, but I thank my team-mates as well. The ball will go in my house and it will make me motivated every game to score another hat-trick. It’s not easy but I’m really, really happy to score my first hat-trick here in Tottenham.”
On the overall result
“It’s the FA Cup, they are in League One, they wanted to win but we deserved to win and we played really well. They hardly had any chances and we really should have scored more goals. We deserved to go into the next round.”
