Video: Age no concern for Les
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
At a combined age of 69, Les Ferdinand and Teddy Sheringham’s strike partnership could certainly be deemed past old age pensioner status — but Les insists the pair will feel as good as ever come August.
The youngster of the pair at 34, Les' attitude is that age is nothing but a number and he looks forward to wrecking havoc in the Premiership next term.
He certainly produced the best form of his injury-hit spell at the Lane last season, form that prompted Glenn Hoddle to offer him a new, two-year deal.
Les said: “If me and Teddy play together next season we’ll have the oldest strikeforce in the country but we won’t be too bothered about that.
“I still feel quite fresh and Teddy has just won PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year so he’s still playing to a very high standard.
“If we do get to play together we’ll cause defences a few problems.”
Certainly, Glenn is spoilt for choice up front. Add Sergei Rebrov, Steffen Iversen and Chris Armstrong to Les and Teddy, throw in the versatility of Gary Doherty and the new-found confidence of Willem Korsten, who started to blossom at the end of last season, and there are options aplenty.
Les added: “There is great competition for places now and that will keep people on their toes.
“We said that when Sergei came last season but unfortunately Chris Armstrong and Steffen Iversen were injured for long periods. But if we can get them fit and everyone else stays fit as I said, it will keep everyone on their toes.”
