Vega takes the blame
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Ramon Vega has joined team-mate Steffen Freund in taking responsibility for Saturday’s defeat at Coventry City.
The big defender was at fault for City’s second goal at Highfield Road when he lost out to Craig Bellamy who in turn squared for John Eustace to slot home.
The Swiss international declared: “Players have to take responsibility. As a defender I take the responsibility. I have to take the blame and I’m a man enough to do that.
“But the whole team has to take responsibility, every part — defence, midfield and strikers.
“If people then want to talk about the defence I take it, no doubt about that.”
Vega, like the rest of the team, hardly put a foot wrong as we dominated the second half. Sergei Rebrov pulled a goal back and we carved out further chances but the damage was done in the first period.
Vega commented: “In the first half I don’t know what happened but we always come back and in the second half we were a completely different team.
“We have to do it for the whole 90 minutes if we want to get points in away games. We have to get our team spirit back for away games.
“We deserved a draw after 90 minutes, for sure. But we lost it in the first 20 minutes. The first goal was just hammered but you could see it coming because we lost too many balls. We didn’t play like a team.”
So it’s back to the drawing board this week and Vega insists it is as much about restoring belief and mental strength as anything else.
“We know we can keep clean sheets,” he added. “We did it before Leeds and Coventry when we had four in five games.
“We can do it and I have no doubt we can go back to that.
“This week we will work hard and be mentally strong so we can keep clean sheets again. That has to be our major goal so we can get back on track on Saturday.”
