Vega staying put

English Barclays Premiership

Our Swiss defender Ramon Vega has ruled out a possible move to Celtic, saying he feels he belongs at White Hart Lane. The versatile international star is reported by the Press Association as being been targeted by Parkhead manager Martin O'Neill, but on August 10 he told the official website that he was determined to force his way into the first team picture.

On Sunday, director of football David Pleat told our papers reviewer that there had been an inquiry earlier in the month but no offer for the player.

Vega has been plagued by injury since joining the club three years ago, but he is now fully fit and determined to win a place in George Graham's side.

"I have shown this club a lot of loyalty since I've been here and now I hope they can do the same to me," he said. "Nobody at Spurs came up to tell me about Celtic, but the bottom line is that I don't want to go.

"I've been through everything and every emotion here, from struggling in the Premiership to winning the Worthington Cup.

"I have a real passion for Tottenham and the club is like a family to me. I feel this is where I belong."
