Vega eyes exit door
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Ramon Vega is starting to believe that his future lies away from White Hart Lane.
The big Swiss defender has lost his place to new kid on the block Alton Thelwell and has been relegated to the reserves.
The 29-year-old is in the final year of his contract and can start talking to clubs in January — an option he looks like using.
Vega said: “What can I do? Just be professional, kept going and fight for my place back. I’ve six months to go and from January I can talk to other clubs, so it’s a good position to be in. We’ll see what happens.
“I’m thinking that I might have to move on and with the way it is at the moment, I have to think like that.
“I will have to see what’s going on and look after myself in the future as well. If the club wants to talk to me I will listen but I can always wait and see if the offers come in.
“It’s nothing to do with the young boys, it’s good for them. It’s nice that we have players coming through because the club need that. At the moment I think George Graham is trying to see what he has available in the future.”
It has been a rocky road for Vega at the Lane. He has been hit regularly by injuries — missing out from March 1999 to pre-season this summer with a broken foot and then a serious ankle problem — and has had to suffer abuse from his own fans.
“It has been tough for me,” he said. “I have always been injured and had to come back. The team was always in big trouble and everybody thinks I have to sort that out straight away.
“This season has been the same, I’ve come back from a one-year injury. I have also been unlucky since I’ve been here and perhaps I need a break and to go somewhere else for myself.
“I will keep working hard and if the manager needs me I’m always available, I will never let the players down. Okay, I’m unhappy that I’m not playing but that is natural but if I come on I will give everything. But I have to look after my future.”
