US countdown - Brad back in the US
It's less than a month until Brad Friedel steps back on US soil - and return to the city where it all started for him.
Born in Lakewood, Ohio and brought up in Bay Village, Brad attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he won the Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best US collegiate player in 1992.
The goalkeeper eventually kicked-off his career in Europe at Galatasaray and then onto Liverpool, Blackburn, Villa and Spurs last season, where he was ever-present and stretched his amazing record to 304 consecutive starts in the Premier League.
Brad also helped up keep 14 clean sheets in the Premier League – our best in the Premier League and best in league football since 1986-87.
Now he’s heading back to LA as we take in the Sunshine State in the first part of our American tour, including a friendly against LA Galaxy on July 24.
“It will be the first time I’ve done a pre-season back in America since my time at Blackburn, but we were on the East Coast then,” he said.
“I went to university at UCLA and we’re going to Los Angeles for a bit, so it will be nice to see some old friends.
“The teams we’re up against are going to be top-drawer and LA will be a tough test to start.
“I’m sure the competition will be very good, the hotels, food, everything out there, I’m sure the players will be in the right frame of mind. It will be professionally done, hard work but enjoyable at the same time.”
