Unwanted first for Leds
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
While happy following our dramatic extra-time win over Bolton, it began to dawn on Ledley King that he had netted his first own goal.
It was a devilish delivery from the Bolton left by Fernando Hierro that led to a clutch of heads stretching to make contact - Ledley's making the most decisive. Bolton were a goal up and an evening of twists and turns began to unfold.
"I don't want it on my record as I don't remember scoring an own goal before," replied Ledley when asked if he was claiming it. "I think it did come off me so it probably has to go down as mine.
"We were really disappointed after the first goal from a set piece - we knew they were dangerous from them. We managed to start playing some better football and that gave us some confidence going into the second half - if we played our football we would open them up and get chances."
Of course, it was Jermain Defoe getting back on the goal trail that provided the spark with a goal pretty much out of nothing on the stroke of half-time.
"It did come out of the blue a bit," admitted Ledley. "Even he said he didn't think it was going in and was going wide."
Bolton went back in front with a Jay Jay Okocha penalty in the second half before Goran Bunjevcevic ensured extra time with a late strike. Michael Brown nodded us into the lead for the first time and Defoe doubled his tally, with Les Ferdinand's reply allowing for no calming of nerves.
"We were disappointed with the defending for their third goal which put us right under pressure again for the second half of extra time."
Ledley added that the win is a welcome boost for confidence heading into Saturday's trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham.
"It showed good team spirit after two losses. We had to dig deep and it is not an easy place to come to, it was a tough game for us.
"We are a lot better away from home than we have been in previous seasons - we don't fear too much.
"Fulham play a similar formation to Bolton I think and have some pacy players. We expect another tough game and will take some confidence out of the last one."
