United vs Spurs - magic moment - Clint's goal
07 August 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Clint Dempsey scored some big goals in his year at Spurs - but few match what turned out to be the clincher in our first win at Old Trafford in almost 23 years on September 29, 2012.
It's a game that will live long in the memory of Spurs fans - Jan Vertonghen's solo goal to open the scoring, Gareth Bale's burst of pace and clinical finish, United hitting back, Clint's goal n front of our fans and then the team defending for their lives to hold onto a famous win, our first since Gary Lineker secured victory in Division One back in December, 1989.
"I've been in the Premier League for five years and this is the first time I've won here," said Clint at the time.
"This is my first goal against United so it's a great time to open my account and the importance of the goal made it even more special," added Clint, who watched the final, nerve-wracking minutes from the bench.
"I was praying for us to see it out! We fought so hard for it and deserved the win."
Twenty-three years, 22 matches - then we recorded back-to-back wins at the 'Theatre of Dreams' a year later thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen on New Year's Day, 2014.
It was the first time we'd won back-to-back matches at Old Trafford since 1974. In October 1972, Martin Peters scored all four in a 4-1 win followed up by a 1-0 success in March, 1974 with Ralph Coates on target.
