United v Spurs - Mauricio's preview
27 October 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino says the team won’t just focus on the Lukaku factor at Old Trafford on Saturday.
It’s a fascinating contest in the Premier League with the teams level on 20 points after nine games. United are second with four wins out of four at home while we’re third having won our last six away in the league dating back to the end of last season – four out of four so far this term. Something has to give!
“They’ve started very well,” said Mauricio. “They have a great squad, great manager and are always one of the candidates to win the Premier League.
“We’re in the same position in the table, same points and it’s a big challenge for us to go there and try to win the game.”
United are spearheaded by Romelu Lukaku, who has 11 goals in all competitions.
“We need to be focused on Lukaku but different players too,” explained Mauricio. “They have big potential up front - Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Martial, Mata, Lingard - and players who can create problems, so we don’t just focus on Lukaku, we focus on how they play, how they are in the offensive line and they are also solid, a strong team.”
Mauricio added that the team will take extra motivation from our recent record at Old Trafford and try to bounce back from a disappointing defeat against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
“It’s true, we’ve struggled a little at Old Trafford,” said Mauricio, referring to 3-0, 1-0 and 1-0 losses in his three matches there. “That is in our mind and important maybe to add more motivation going to play there and try to take a good result.”
