United 1-0 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction
11 December 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
In the end, it was the small details that decided the outcome at Old Trafford – Mauricio Pochettino pointed to United being more clinical as they came away with the three points and a narrow 1-0 victory.
Detail one was a loss of possession that led to United’s winner in the first half, Ander Herrera capitalised and sent Henrikh Mkhitaryan clear and the in-form Armenian fired his one-on-one chance into the roof of the net.
Detail two came with our best chance, as Christian Eriksen teased a free-kick into the box in the 55th minute, Victor Wanyama lost his marker but mistimed his header from six yards.
An equaliser at that stage could have made a huge difference but it wasn’t to be.
“It was a close game, they were more clinical than us in the boxes and it’s for that (reason) we lost the game,” said Mauricio. “It’s always the case in football and when you play a team like Manchester United, it’s important to be clinical when you have the opportunities to score.
“It was a very competitive game, a game that we’re disappointed with the result but not the performance. Now we look forward and try to be ready for Wednesday.”
What were your thoughts on United’s goal?
Mauricio: “I’m disappointed in the way we conceded, we need to be ready better in that situation. You can see Manchester United are a good team with good players and when they have the possibility to score and to kill the game, they were more clinical than us.”
How about Victor’s chance?
Mauricio: “We had some actions that were close to scoring. The most important thing was that we fought until the end of the game, we were unlucky not to achieve a better result.”
