Under-18s 3-0 West Ham
Our Academy enjoyed a 3-0 win against West Ham in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League on Saturday.
Nathan Oduwa continued his fine form of late by opening the scoring after 22 minutes and the points were secured by Ruben Lameiras on 73 minutes and Darren McQueen four minutes from time.
Academy Manager, John McDermott, reported: "We had a tough training week, but a really good one. We trained on Monday with Jermain Defoe and Danny Rose. The goalkeepers then trained with Hugo Lloris and that was topped off by Scott, Jake and Tom Carroll all watching the game on Saturday.
"That’s massive for the kids, to have Scott there talking to them from the touchline.
"It was two young teams and I thought ours stepped up to the plate. I thought West Ham played well for 10 minutes but we then got on top and played some outstanding football.
"The first goal was a second-phase tap in from Nathan. The second goal was outstanding from Ruben, he received the ball 20 yards from goal and created the chance for himself, really smashed it home, a great individual goal.
"The third goal was a quick free-kick and Darren McQueen went clean through on goal from the halfway line. He had a lot of time, showed good pace and went around the goalkeeper and finished.
"We were a little worried just prior to the second goal because we’d dominated and perhaps we could have gone for the throat a little more but we then scored the second and third goals.
"What was most pleasing was keeping a clean sheet, there was plenty of emphasis on that.
"The special mentions would go to Harry Winks, who was outstanding. He’s trained with the first team recently. He was in midfield and the midfield three of Harry, Filip Lesniak and Ruben, they were the difference. Everyone joined in, but they were outstanding."
