Under-17s happy return

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Our under-17 side returned to action after the winter break on Saturday and resumed winning ways with a 1-0 win over Southampton at Spurs Lodge.

Mario Noto scored the decisive goal in the first half, securing a result that keeps Jimmy Neighbour's side right up near the top of their group.

The under-17s were without a game last week as opponents Charlton were on tour but, before the last round of fixtures they were in second place, just three points adrift of the leaders.

"It's nice to get playing again after Christmas," said Jimmy. "The boys played very well and passed the ball well. We certainly deserved to win the game.

"Mario Noto scored the goal, he picked the ball up just inside his own half. He was nice and aggressive with it and ran with the ball and shot from about 25 yards and found the net with a nice strike."

Jimmy explained that the winter break is not always ideal in terms of maintaining fitness and form for the second half of the season.

"It's a bit of a pain, you've got to try and regain their fitness a little bit and they go off the boil.

"We were started to go nicely before Christmas, but I'm absolutely delighted with the way they've come back and started.

"It's nice for them to have the little rest, but the hard thing about it is, coming back after six weeks not playing, is to get them back playing as they were.

"I must admit though, they started on Saturday as if they hadn't been away."
