Our Under-18s won the prestigious Eurofoot Tournament in Belgium on Sunday.

Our Under-18s won the prestigious Eurofoot Tournament in Belgium on Sunday.

The lads hammered Anderlecht 4-0 in the final on Sunday afternoon having toppled Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final in the morning.

Tomas Pekhart (pictured), who scored the only goal in the semi-final, was on target again in the final alongside Dean Parrett, Andros Townsend and Jake Livermore.

There was further good news as Yuri Berchiche was named Player of the Tournament.

"It's a proud moment for everyone," said coach Alex Inglethorpe. "The lads were outstanding in the final, absolutely different class.

"This is an exciting group of players and a performance like this shows the Academy is going in the right direction."

SATURDAY'S GAMES

Our Academy squad made it through to the last four with two wins out of three in Saturday's group games.

They beat Cercle Bruges 1-0 with a penalty from Tomas Pekhart after David Hutton was brought down in the box.

Having lost 2-0 to Dutch side Willem II in their second match, the lads recovered in a must-win game against Standard Liege with Chris Casey on target in a 1-0 success.

FRIDAY'S ACTION

The lads were denied a perfect opening day on Friday by a last-minute goal.

Having beaten Club Bruges 3-1 in their first group game, the lads led Olympiakos 1-0 and had a goal disallowed before the late, late leveller.

Coach Alex Inglethorpe gives us the latest: "We started really well against Club Bruges and were comfortable winners with Andros Townsend, Tomas Pekhart and Ryan Mason on target.

"We went 1-0 up against Olympiakos, Dean Parrett had a goal wiped off and then conceded a late goal from a free-kick. It was a shame because we dominated that game, but it was a good opening day."

The lads are second in their group going into Saturday's matches against Cercle Bruges, Willem II and Standard Liege.

Squad: Dalton, L Butcher, Hughton, Casey, Mtandari, Berchiche, Livermore, Kasim, Hutton, Townsend, Mason, Pekhart, Olsen, Fraser-Allen, L Butcher, Parrett, Obika, Hutchins.
