Our Under-18s had victory over Arsenal snatched away by an injury time equaliser as it finished 2-2 in the Premier Academy League on Saturday.
Arsenal took an early lead but Dean Parrett's (pictured) penalty midway through the first half and John Bostock's fine finish with 15 minutes remaining looked set to secure maximum points.
But the Gunners were awarded a free-kick in the final minute of added time, the ball was played into the box, took a couple of deflections and was eventually hammered home.
"It was a real shame," said coach Alex Inglethorpe. "We deserved to win the game and to be denied in the last 30 seconds was a bit harsh on the lads.
"Arsenal opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a free-kick bent over the wall.
"We'd created chances before that but we got on the ball more and more, created more opportunities and eventually equalised when Paul Jose M'poku was fouled and Dean Parrett chipped the penalty down the centre of the goal.
"Arsenal started well in the first 10 minutes of the second half but we were outstanding after that.
"We deservedly took the lead after 75 minutes when Paul M'poku sent John Bostock through on goal and he finished with real precision.
"We looked comfortable after that. John Bostock had another good chance and I really couldn't see Arsenal scoring.
"But they got a free-kick in the last few seconds, knocked it into the box, the first header took a ricochet and their forward managed to spin and score.
"As I said, it was a real pity for it to end like that but I was very proud of the way we played.
"There were a lot of positives in the performance and it would be unfair to single anyone out, there were a lot of fine displays out there.
"As a game, I thought it was a fantastic advert for Premier Academy League football with two very good teams and a lot of good players."
