U18S BOUNCE BACK

Our Under-18s bounced back from their FA Youth Cup disappointment to make it eight straight league wins with a 2-0 success at Reading.

Our Under-18s bounced back from their FA Youth Cup disappointment to make it eight straight league wins with a 2-0 success at Reading.Alex Inglethorpe’s side were knocked out of the Cup by Port Vale last Wednesday, but a side that included seven changes consigned that result firmly to the history books.

After a promising start that showed plenty of enterprise, we took the lead in somewhat bizarre fashion on 25 minutes with Andros Townsend scoring direct from a corner kick.

We continued to dominate possession after half-time and a second goal finally came soon after the hour mark. Townsend was again involved, this time turning provider for Alex Olsen.

There was no letting up after this however, and we could have made it three before the end.

Olsen struck the underside of the bar after good work from Kyle-Fraser Allen in a real ‘Geoff Hurst moment’! Unfortunately, the assistant referee on this occasion waved our appeals away.

Outstanding performances on the day came from skipper Jake Livermore and defender Takura Mtandari.

Line-up: Jansson; Smith, Mtandari, Berchiche, Cox (Hutchins, 45); Fraser-Allen, Kasim, Livermore, Townsend; Olsen, Hutton. Subs not used: Butler, Obika, Mason, Asajile.
