Harry Redknapp praised a 'gritty' display as the team secured a hard-fought 2-1 win at Blackburn on Sunday.

Rafa van der Vaart struck twice including a delightful winner from 20 yards in the 53rd minute at Ewood Park.

But the home side put us under pressure in the final 20 minutes as the ball came into the penalty area from just about every angle.

Brad Friedel tipped over Chris Samba's flicked header from a Morten Gamst Pedersen throw-in, Yakubu saw another chance deflected over by Gareth Bale and even Emmanuel Adebayor found himself blocking a late chance.

We held on for our fifth win in the last six matches and 16 points gained out of the last 18 available in the Premier League.

"We went 1-0 up and looked in control but when they scored suddenly they came on strong and didn't give up," said Harry.

"In the last 20 minutes it was backs to the wall for us. We were gritty and hung in there.

"Blackburn are so strong at set-pieces. I said to the lads that we couldn’t give free-kicks away, couldn’t give throws away because that’s where they are dangerous.

"Samba comes up, they throw it into the box, he heads every ball and you have to deal with every second ball. It’s difficult.

"You can't give free-kicks away of any sort, you can’t even be offside. If you make a silly run offside, the goalkeeper puts the ball down, Samba comes up, gets on the end of the free-kick and you are fighting for your lives.

"We went 2-1 up but they piled everything in and really put us under pressure.

"Adebayor came back and made a great block in the last minute, that’s what you have to do to win games like this, everyone has to fight for it.

"It was difficult but we fought for everything and got the result."
