Trippier: 'We're moving forward and these tour games are ideal'

21 July 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Kieran Trippier can’t wait to get stuck into our International Champions Cup matches in the States over the next few days.

The speedy right-back, who put pen to paper on a new deal with the Club earlier this week, touched down with the rest of our travelling squad in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday evening ahead of Saturday night’s opening game against French giants Paris Saint-Germain at the Camping World Stadium.

It’s our first public outing since the lads returned from their off-season breaks and represents one of three tough tests we have in front of us over the coming days, with games against AS Roma and Manchester City still to come in Harrison, New Jersey, and Nashville, Tennessee.

According to ‘Trips’, our programme of matches in America will allow the players to prepare themselves well as they bid to mount a big challenge during the coming 2017-18 campaign.

“We’re moving forward, we want to win things so pre-season is a good time to re-group and work together with all the lads again,” he said.

“We’ve got three very tough games but three very exciting games. It’s always good to travel away in pre-season, get that experience abroad and you just have to look at the teams that we’re playing – they’re up there with the best teams in the world.

“These are the teams that we want to play against to progress in the Premier League. It’s a very tough league that we’re in so we’re only going to get better by playing teams like PSG, Roma and City.

“We’ll obviously go out and try to win, work on the things we need to work on and then go back home for the end of pre-season, the Juventus game at Wembley and then look to start off well in the Premier League on August 13.”
