Kieran Trippier has been named in the senior England squad for the first time alongside Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker ahead of next month’s matches against Scotland and France.
The former Burnley right-back, 26, has impressed on his recent Premier League starts and has now been named in Gareth Southgate’s 25-man squad.
It’s a welcome return to the international picture for the ex-Manchester City youngster, whose last cap for England Under-21s came back in 2011. He’s also previously represented his country at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 levels.
Kieran, who is the only new face in the squad, is now set to take his battle for the right-back spot with Kyle onto the England stage, the latter retaining his place in the group along with Dele and Eric. Striker Harry returns to the squad after missing March’s round of international fixtures through injury.
England face Scotland in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday, June 10, before playing a friendly in France on Tuesday, June 13.
