Trio's a dream for Les
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Les Ferdinand reflected on his first hat-trick for Spurs and admitted: “This is what I dreamt of when I came here.”
Ferdinand notched the classic treble with goals with his right foot, left foot and head to sink Leicester City 3-0 and lift us into seventh place in the Premiership on Saturday night.
It was just rewards for Ferdinand who admitted he’d come close to quitting the game during a nine-month injury lay-off last season. But he stuck to his guns, got himself fit and is now reaping the rewards.
The 33-year-old beamed: “From day one I wanted to score goals, I wanted the team to improve and I wanted us to win things.
“I’ve had an unfortunate time with injuries, I’ve had an unfortunate time with loss of form as well because I’ve never really been able to sustain a run of games in the side. This season so far, touch wood, I’ve been able to do that and hopefully I can reap the rewards.
“I had some low points, especially last year, but I’m glad I stuck to it. The people I have around me encouraged me all the time and this hat-trick is for them.”
The treble made it four goals in two games for Ferdinand who finally found lady luck on his side at the Lane.
“I got the goal against Liverpool last week and you then think that it would be nice to go on a run,” he added. “Fortunately I’ve scored three this time.
“Sometimes the way the game goes you get yourself into positions and the ball just zips past you and you can’t get your toe on anything. This time, after the first goal, the second was a clearance that went straight to me and the third was a shot by Darren Anderton that landed at my feet.”
In fact the only thing missing to cap a perfect day was the matchball - it would seem someone ran up the High Road after the final whistle with a very special present!
Ferdinand revealed: “Someone kicked the matchball into the stand and one of the supporters obviously thought ‘I’ve got a nice present here’ and walked away with it. But he’s phoned in and said that he will return it.”
