Trio involved, but England Under-17s slip up

21 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

All three of our lads in the England Under-17s squad started for the Young Lions in their narrow defeat to Brazil at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile on Tuesday night.

Alfie Whiteman retained his place in goal after his impressive performance in the draw against Guinea last time out, while attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards and striker Kazaiah Sterling were in action further forward.

Kazaiah went close to breaking the deadlock for England a handful of times in the opening stages of the second period, but the Young Lions’ efforts were ultimately undone when Brazil scored from a free-kick to claim a 1-0 victory.

Alfie completed the full game while Marcus and Kazaiah were substituted on 71 minutes.

England now need a win in their final Group B match against South Korea on Friday if they are to finish in the top two, although they could also progress as one of the best third-placed sides depending on other results.
