He might have impressed in his first derby and was about to join the England squad for the first time, but there was no hiding Andros Townsend's disappointment after the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.
The winger cut a glum figure as he spoke to Spurs TV at the Emirates.
“You just know this is such a massive game for the club and the fans,” he said.
Olivier Giroud’s strike in the 23rd minute proved enough for the Gunners, who held on as we laid siege to their goal in the second half.
Andros looked lively throughout and drilled in a couple of shots that Wojceich Szczesny had to be alert to in the first half.
We controlled the second half without creating that clear-cut chance and the ball just didn’t fall our way in the latter stages. At the other end, Hugo Lloris was outstanding as Arsenal threatened on the counter-attack.
“There were positive signs, we dominated the second half but the result is the main thing and we couldn’t find the back of the net,” reflected Andros.
“We came to the Emirates and took the game to Arsenal. We did everything but score and got undone on the counter-attack. That’s how it goes sometimes.
“We’ve now got the international break but we’ll all come back from that, work hard and move on quickly from this.”
