Town toil for under-19s
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Pat Holland's under-19 side didn't quite recover from the Youth Cup semi-final loss to Everton and fell to a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich on Saturday.
Despite taking the lead in windy conditions through Lee Barnard, two second half strikes for the home side secured a deserved win for Ipswich.
Pat gives his take on the game...
"With us being out of the Youth Cup and not being able to win our section, it was just a case of playing for pride.
"Both sides fielded strong sides in terms of age group and we played on a beautiful pitch in a very strong wind. It was an ideal pitch for a good game of football, but the wind spoilt it.
"In fairness to Ipswich, although we had the benefit of the wind in the first half they had the best chances. Shwan Jalal made two excellent saves.
"We took the lead right on the stroke of half-time against the run of play. Typical Lee Barnard determination, he closed the keeper down. The keeper struck the ball at him and Lee followed it up and put it in the net.
"We were fortunate to come into half-time in the lead and I changed the format at the break. It was a little bit unfair on the boys, but I needed to have a proper look at the trialist. We played a three at the back in the first half and went to a four for the second.
"It may have disrupted us and we let an early goal in and it put us on the back foot a bit. Although we had good spells, we never really got to grips with the game and they scored with about 15 minutes remaining.
"In the final minutes, their keeper made a great save from Ben Bowditch's header but, if we'd have pinched a point, it would have been a bit unfair on Ipswich.
"They've been 'okay' after the Youth Cup... It's been hard for them, as it would be for even the first team. They've got a couple of big games coming up, Aston Villa, Arsenal and a tour to Switzerland, so it's all still to play for. I think I will have to raise them a little bit."
