Tour opens Barn door
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Lee Barnard feels he’s benefited again from another trip abroad with the first team.
The young striker cracked home a wonderful strike in Friday’s friendly win against Mauritius in our brief end of the season tour of the island.
It capped a fine season for ‘Barney’ that started in similar fashion when he bagged the our first friendly goal of the campaign against Falkenbergs FF in Sweden back in July.
That training camp eventually turned sour for him when he broke his collar bone in the third friendly but on his return to full fitness, Lee enjoyed his most prolific season for the reserves with 17 goals in 17 games and enjoyed loan spells at Leyton Orient and Northampton Town.
A combination of the goals scored and being around the first team squad mean confidence is high — illustrated by his goal against Mauritius, when he cut in from the left and struck a dipping shot into the top corner.
“It’s always a superb experience to travel with the first team, to mix with them and be around them,” said Lee. “They are all great, make you feel welcome and it helps, even if you don’t play.
“It means when you do play, you feel a lot more comfortable around them.
“My chances have been limited but when I’ve had an opportunity I feel I’ve done well. I’m a lot more confident now, I feel stronger and I’m looking for goals.”
Lee admitted our visit to the Rose Belle North Government School was a real eye opener for him — the kids in his and Michael Dawson’s coaching group relished every minute of it.
“It was good fun,” her reflected. “The kids were amazing, really well behaved and when we started the match they loved it. They were running all over the place!
“I’m young myself but these kids look up to you so much. They haven’t got the life we have back home but they’ve always got a smile on their faces.”
