Tour 2015 - fans Q&A - Tommy from Australia Spurs

28 May 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Excitement in Sydney has reached fever pitch as the countdown to our big match at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday continues – with members of our Australia Spurs official Supporters' Club among those looking forward to the game.

Tommy Silver, one of more than 1,500 members of Australia Spurs, says our clash with Sydney FC promises to be a real treat for everyone Down Under.

We caught up with him ahead of the game...

What are your thoughts about Spurs coming over to Australia and what does it mean to the fans here?
It’s a dream come true and it all feels a little bit surreal! For Australia-based Spurs fans it is an incredible opportunity, and for some a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, to see Spurs in the flesh. For the official Supporters’ Club, Australia Spurs, it has been massive. We have added more than 1,200 members since the game was announced and we have big plans for the future.

Which players in particular are you looking forwarding to seeing and why?
The natural answer to that is Harry Kane! ‘He’s one of our own’, as the song goes. Aside from that, Christian Eriksen is a personal favourite.

What’s it like following Tottenham in Australia? How do you go about watching the games?
It’s hard work! Getting up for a 2am kick-off takes dedication. But still, every week all over the country our Australia Spurs pubs are packed out.

What was most pleasing about the team’s performances over the past season?
The amount of young players we saw break through has given us hope for the future. Ryan Mason and Harry Kane, as well as Nabil Bentaleb continuing to progress, have been great for the fans. On top of that, a cup final – albeit a losing one, the incredible 5-3 win over Chelsea on New Year’s Day and a Harry Kane-inspired North London derby victory were easily the highlights.
