Tour 2015 - familiar foe for Nacer
28 May 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Nacer Chadli is ready to face an old friend in Sydney on Saturday.
The Belgium international will come up against former team-mate Marc Janko when we take on Sydney FC in the AIA Cup at the iconic ANZ Stadium (8pm local time).
The pair were together at FC Twente for two seasons - 2010-11, 2011-12 - during which time they played in the Champions League and helped the club lift the KNVB (Dutch FA) Cup in 2011.
Indeed, both played against us in the Champions League in 2010 as we were drawn in the same group!
Austrian striker Janko has been prolific throughout his career, catching the eye in his spell at Red Bull Salzburg where he scored 83 goals in 131 matches, including 39 goals in 34 league games in 2008-09.
He registered 35 goals in two seasons at FC Twente before spells at Porto and Trabzonspor in Turkey before joining Sydney FC in July, 2014. He scored a club-record 16 league goals as Sydney FC finished second in the Hyundai A-League in 2014-15.
Janko also has 17 goals in 40 caps for Austria. "Marc's a good player, scores lots of goals and hit important goals for us at Twente like in the cup final we won against Ajax, he scored the winner in extra time.
"I have very fond memories of him. He’s always there to make everyone happy in the group, a great guy and a good player who scores a lot of goals. I’ll be very happy to see him again."
Nacer is enjoying our summer Tour of Malaysia and Australia, adding: "Everyone is excited because we get to see and meet fans who are so far away. They are now in touch with the players and see us close-up rather than just on television."
