Tour 2015 - AIA Cup previews
27 May 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino expects a tough test as we take on a Malaysia XI in the AIA Cup in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night (May 27).
Temperatures look likely to topple 90 degrees today with kick-off at the Shah Alam Stadium at 8.45pm local time (1.45pm UK).
“The Malaysia squad is starting to prepare for qualifying for the World Cup and obviously where we are, the conditions are difficult for us,” said Mauricio.
“We played in Liverpool on Sunday then travelled here on Monday, so we’re a bit tired but we’re happy to be here because the energy from our supporters is fantastic.
“It will be a tough test but we’ll enjoy the game and all the players have a chance to play."
Harry Kane said: “The weather is hot and sticky so we know it’s going to be a test but we’re all looking forward to it.”
Christian Eriksen added: “It’s a post-season game but when you are in a game situation you just want to win. Hopefully we’ll have a good game, show everyone we can play and come out of it injury-free.”
Dollah Salleh, coach of the Malaysia national team and in charge of Malaysia XI for this match, wants his players to put on show.
“We’ll try to do our best and hopefully our local players will perform,” he said. “We’ve a few issues on selection, so we’ve included five foreign players in this squad but we’ll try to show Spurs something in this match. We’ll give it our best.”
One of those five foreign selections, Brazilian Paulo Rangel of Terengganu, added: “This is a big opportunity in my life, in my career and I hope to enjoy the game. We’re playing against experienced players and we’ll all give it our best.”
