Grant Ward says we can look forward to a tremendous atmosphere when we travel to Chicago Fire as part of this summer’s pre-season tour.
Our 19-year-old Development Squad player is currently on loan with the MLS side and last week bagged his first goal in a US Open Cup win against Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
He’s so far played against the likes of LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders – the latter side being another of our tour opponents – at Fire’s Toyota Park home.
Ahead of our match there on July 26, our young midfielder has spoken about the buzz that’s created from the terraces on matchdays.
“The atmosphere is good and there’s a lot more chanting than in other leagues,” he said. “We’ve got a group of fans here called Section 8 and they just play drums throughout the whole match!
“It’s quite an open stadium as well and when the lads come here in July it’s going to be very hot and humid – I think that’s probably the main thing for them to bear in mind.
“Even on days when it’s not that hot it’s still pretty humid. As I said, though, the atmosphere is great and I’m sure everyone will love it here.”
