Martin Jol expects a testing friendly against St Patrick's as we face the high-flying eircom League side tonight (Thursday July 12, 7.45pm).The club based at Richmond Park in Inchicore, Dublin, are currently second in the eircom League, just a point behind leaders Drogheda having lost only four of their 17 matches so far this season.

The former home of Republic great Paul McGrath, St Pats recently appointed former national team manager Brian Kerr as their Director of Football and are due to enter the UEFA Cup at the first qualifying round stage next week with a two-legged tie against Danish side Odense BK.

It’s our second pre-season friendly of the summer after Saturday’s successful opener at Stevenage Borough, where Darren Bent scored his first goal in his first game in our colours and further strikes from Robbie Keane and Adel Taarabt secured victory.

Martin said: “It’s always a test against teams like this whether they’re from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland or Wales.

“St Patrick’s are second in their league and we will see how strong they are when we go there.

“I’m looking forward to it and I think it’s good that we are playing them because they are in the middle of their league season yet they are playing us on a Thursday night.”
